  • Spring/summer fashion trends from London Fashion Week 2012 Seeing as the fashion industry works a full season in advance, we are only now just getting to grips with the spring/summer trends that were first showcased on the global catwalks last autumn. Now that summer is just around the corner we all want to kn...
  • Explaining M.E to Children When my doctor diagnosed me as having M.E I cried. Not because I had M.E but because I was no longer a mum who was just always ill but a mum who had something to look up, learn about and understand. Having that starting point made it easier to tell my chi...
  • Which Sites Do You Use For.... You might know that I have another site Parenting Directory. I am trying to compile a directory of useful resources that are recommended by parents for parents. Parenting Directory now has voting enabled so if you think a site listed on there is really...
  • Buying a Tree and demolishing half the store Back in the summer I cleared out the garage. It had only taken 2 years of asking the ex for the use of his van (he had offered to help) for it to actually happen. In my reckless moment, high on the excitement of getting rid of ‘stuff’, I was very bold and...
  • Surnames and Divorce I think I may have done something that’s considered odd. When I divorced, 10 years ago, I kept my married name. I didn’t ‘just forget ‘to change it back to my maiden name as I even went to my in-laws and asked if they minded if I kept the surname. They th...
  • Much Needed Dose of Realism  Like any one else on the planet with email, I get a fair few jokes and such like. Most I read/look at and delete.  Very few get forwarded on. Even less grab my attention so much I put them on here. The one below though I think is a good. It's n...
  • What do these names say to you? If you’re following me on twitter you may have seen me waffling on about my new project. I have been rather cryptic about it till I was sure it was something that I really wanted to do. The hardest part was thinking of a name for it. I have finally though...

And No One Told Me….

Posted by on May 18, 2012 in Single Mum Ramblings | 2 comments

As I searched this morning for yet another lost hair band, it dawned on me that there are many little things about children that no one told me about before I had children. Hair bands and slides, no matter how many you have in the house when you need one you can’t find one. It is a standard rule in my house that Christmas stocking fillers includes hair bands. This may seem a small thing but then depends on how late your child is for school or how late you are getting out the door and in need of a hair band yourself. Little boys will get...

Horses, Rain, Pen and Paper

Posted by on Apr 3, 2012 in Single Mum Ramblings | 1 comment

So here I am in the car waiting for the teen, don’t panic I’m not driving, teen has a horse riding lesson and it was just easier to sit and wait for an hour instead of back and forth. I can’t fault her dedication as its absolutely tipping it down and it’s turned really cold. I can just about make her out through the rain, she is carrying tack (right term? I’m obviously not the horsy kind) with the biggest grin on her face. As lovely and wholesome as this all is for her, I and the tween are sat here with more books than the local...

Its That Time of Year Again

Posted by on Mar 27, 2012 in In the Garden | 1 comment

For me there are two signals that I need to be starting on the vegetable patch. First good old Monty is back on the TV screens with Gardeners World. I drool in envy as he potters about in never ending garden. He even makes digging look effortless with not a bead of sweet to be seen. And I swear he has never had a weed in his garden. The other signal is spotting my elderly neighbours gardening gear on the washing line, all cleaned ready for the season. This is followed a few days later by him also pottering in his garden next to mine. His, like...

Bra Shopping Online

Posted by on Mar 23, 2012 in Single Mum Ramblings | 0 comments

When buying lingerie it’s really important to make sure you buy some that fits, especially when buying online. It is especially important that you get the right size bra, because roughly around 85 per cent of women wear the wrong size bra. If you do buy the wrong bra size, not only can it look terrible, but it can also be really uncomfortable. What’s more, your bra size changes over time depending on circumstances “ you may lose weight or gain weight, or your breast size may change post pregnancy. Therefore, it is a good idea to...

I’ve Cancelled Mothers Day in My House

Posted by on Mar 16, 2012 in Single Mum Ramblings | 1 comment

I have today made the bold step of cancelling Mothers Day in my house. Well not fully as my mother wouldn’t understand and would be hurt so it still continues for her but for my children I have released them of the yearly ritual of making them go out to get a card and act like dutiful children for the day. For me it’s the commercial side that has spoilt it. Every other advert buy your mum this or buy your mum that. Make your mum feel special this year blagh blagh blagh. As I bash away at the keyboard supermarkets are busy rubbing their...
