Christmas Bunting

Christmas Bunting

According to my teen the lounge just didn’t look Christmassy enough. Er hello 7 foot Christmas tree in the room? And there was me worrying it was too big, obviously not. So I pulled on every creative brain cell I have and came up with Christmas bunting. You now the triangle flag style bunting that street parties up and is also rather fashionable in the home at the moment (apparently). Being a bit of a co-ordinated freak and actually not a lover of garish things draped around the ceiling, I managed to get purple and silver glittery wrapping paper to do the job . I am converted and it might be staying up longer than Christmas.

Here is how I did it.

For my lounge I used two rolls (2mtr in each roll) of contrasting colours. You can use whatever you have to hand.

For the string bit I used the silver ribbon stuff that you normally tie around presents. Normally around 99p for a pack of several rolls.

Glue and scissors.

I measured with the ribbon the length of wall I wanted it to fit then added a bit for it to drape and a bit for luck.

From the wrapping paper I cut large diamond shapes as I wanted it to fold over to give the flag shape. I learnt that on layer of wrapping paper tends to curl and do strange things.

With all the diamonds cut out I folded them in half to form the flag shape then lay the ribbon across the fold on the inside. I then glued the two flag halves together, trapping the ribbon inside. (My trial run with staples didn’t look half as good as taking the time to glue each one.) Now work along the ribbon till you have reached your desired length.

When dry, or like me soon as it’s made, I stuck the ribbon ends to the coving. I used masking tape as that’s all I had to hand and glue dots and blue tack weren’t man enough.

And there you go Christmas bunting.
