A new season means a new you, right? Even if you resolved to turn over a new leaf at the start of the year and that hasn’t quite come to fruition yet, that’s absolutely okay. (Why would you choose the most miserable month of the year to change your life, anyway?) Now it’s spring time and there are signs of new life everywhere in the world it’s time to take a more critical eye to your own life and start to re-examine your financial situation. Here are some tips on how to make some practical changes to your finances…
Re-Finance Your Outgoings
If you’re having problems with your mortgage and car payments, the company will look a lot more favourably on you if you go to them and tell them your difficulties than if you start paying less than you should or if they have to contact you to ask for money. Bad credit car finance is available if you’re worried about being able to make your payments on time – just talk to the company and ask for advice.
Cut Down On Non Essentials
Take a look at your life and consider what things you could do without. Maybe you have an every day Starbucks habit that could be cut down to once a week, or you could start going to the library instead of buying expensive hardback books, or you have a gym membership that you really don’t use as often as you could. No matter what it is, it’s time to cut down and cut it out.
Start Meal Planning
If you tend to buy expensive convenience food, kick it to the curb immediately. Not only is it heinously overpriced but it really isn’t all that good for you either. Instead, start buying fresh food and cooking from scratch instead of buying snacks to get you through the morning at work. Make sure that you’ve planned what you’re going to have for each meal – you could even start to batch cook your food on a Sunday afternoon to get you through the week! Make sure that you eat breakfast at home every morning so you don’t end up spending too much money on food at work.
It’s time to ditch that car and get walking. Not only will you cut down on gas prices but you’ll also find yourself getting a lot more healthy! Walking is one of the most inexpensive and yet effective ways to get fit – it increases your stamina and alleviates any back aches you have, and best of all, this time of year you’ll also get to appreciate the springtime blue skies, the blossom on the trees and the lighter mornings and evenings.
Make Your House Eco Friendly
Finally, make your house a more eco friendly and inexpensive zone. Install a water filter so you don’t have to buy bottled water, make sure that your roof is well insulated so you don’t have to crank up the heating and get hit with huge bills, and make sure that your house is kept in good maintenance so nothing goes wrong.
