Last Day of Feb Already

What did I tackle – February was declared an ‘all things beauty’ month.  I talked with a makeup artist and a beauty therapist in my quest to find out if I was doing things right and what more I could do. I also set the task of sorting out my nonexistent beauty routine and set one evening a week as a beauty night.

Did I last the whole month? I can’t say that I did but I can’t say I gave up completely. I had to be realistic and compromise to fit in with life as a mum. Getting the kids ready for school or helping with homework is far more important than a perfect manicure or mascara on both eyes. I did though manage to stick to the rule of not cleaning the shower whilst I was in it. I know that’s multi tasking but I think that was a step too far.

Why I tackled this-? In short I was dreading turning 40. I was feeling old and rather weathered.

What did I hope to achieve –miracles? I wanted to feel happier in myself when I looked in the mirror or caught site of myself in windows.

Positives from the month? – My awe for women who manage make up every day is still there. They are truly time management experts to achieve this and have children. I learnt that, just like life, it’s all about compromise and what actually is important. I learnt that a simple beauty routine is better than none and I can do simple. That it’s not about cost of products on my skin but the quality of me time.

Negatives from the month? - I can’t really think of any negatives from the months task apart from I still turned 40.

My thoughts- Without getting too deep or complex I think the biggest thing I learnt was that there is only so much make up and beauty routines can do. The rest comes from the inside like what you eat and how you think. If you think ugly you see ugly.

The big question – will I continue? Sort of. I won’t be beating myself up if I don’t manage to cleanse tone and moisturise every night. Or if I don’t go near the makeup bag for a few days. I will though keep one evening a week to myself. If I want to do a manicure etc I will but if I equally want to go to bed at 7pm with a book then I will. For me it was all about feeling beautiful and nothing is more beautiful than a smile, so whatever makes me smile is what I will do.
