Don’t forget security on a new date

Don’t forget security on a new date

When taking the plunge and trying online dating you should really have a few basic security steps in place …..yawn….Yes I know security is all very boring and sensible but keep with me for a few minutes and then I will tell you a funny story about my online dating experiences and security.

Be on your guard – I don’t want to take all the fun out of online dating but always keep the rose tinted specs off and just be aware you communicating with a stranger. Not everyone is who they say they are. If something doesn’t add up ask questions.

Meeting up – meeting for the first time? Try not to meet somewhere you do know your way around.  Always tell someone where you’re going, times and who you are meeting. Keep your mobile on, charged and with signal.

If the person you are meeting or talking to doesn’t like you being security conscious then personally I would call a halt to the evening.

Although it is tempting to try free dating sites, I would always recommend dating sites like OnlyDating where there is a small charge. Why? Because like you they have parted with well earned money and there is nothing like parting with money to make you more serious about what you’re doing. Players and other unsavoury types are more likely to go for the free sites.

When I was trying online dating I had two friends who were also giving it a go.  (Just want to point out that one of these friends met her partner who she is still blissfully in love with 8 years on) When one of us had a date we would let one of the others know where we were going and who with. The one on the date would text when they had first met the date, half way through evening and then again when home safe.

OnlyDating is in my top 4 dating sites. It starts at FREE try Onydating now, you can see the other recommendations here

Now one evening I had a date and both my friends were busy so I asked my lodger if he would do the honours. My lodger wasn’t really any old lodger, we had lived together a fair while and he looked upon me more as a little sister. He agreed, I gave him the name of the restaurant etc and off I skipped to my date.

My date was waiting for me as I arrived; I composed my first text to my lodger, pressed send and put my phone into my bag. We finished our drinks and moved to the restaurant. Lovely views of the sea, with lovely food and a promising date, what more could I ask for. When he went to the bar I quickly sent my second text to my lodger that all was fine, popped phone back into bag and resumed gazing out to sea.

We decided to move back to the bar area as the restaurant was very busy and we had finished eating. As we got up we were aware of a commotion in the bar area which was quickly followed by my lodger bursting past a waitress and yelling “Your alive?” Rather startled and not knowing who my lodger was, my date turned to him and said “Well yes I am – does she normally kill her dates?”

As you can imagine red faces all round. I hadn’t checked I had signal on my phone and sitting in my outbox were two texts to my lodger saying all was fine. Being by the sea I had no signal.

It was nice to know that if things had gone badly I was being looked after. As for my date , it did indeed last over a year although I was never allowed to forget our first meeting.

  1. I love your tips! and story I also met my husband online, we were together for 10 years, had a beautiful house and child together. Its all come to an end now, but the whole online dating scene can work. But be careful, there are guys at there that prey on lonely single parent mothers.

I my self am now taking a long rest from men lol. Im doing that getting to know me again stuff :o )
