For such a non-cyclist I really got into the Tour De France this year. I attempted cycling last year with two results. Saddle sore like I never knew before and the one cycling bonding moment with my daughter she told me I rode a bike like a toddler.

Admittedly the main attraction in watching Tour De France was to watch hundreds of fit blokes, pedalling their little hearts out whilst their taught muscled legs were clad in lycra. I was slightly blissfully unaware that a British bloke was tipped for winning.

It’s a bit old news that 3500 miles later he did it and Bradly Wiggens is the first British to win the Tour De France.

Along the race, some oik threw tacks onto the road causing numerous punctures, including last years winner.

Did the unaffected riders take advantage of this , did they peddle their taught little legs even faster and lengthen their lead?

No the complete opposite. They slowed up once they learnt what had happened and waited for everyone to get their punctures sorted out. Camaraderie truly at its best. This is what sport should be about.

Being a single mum is hard work ...and thats the good days. This is my little corner of the world where I waffle on about being a single parent to two teenagers and my life with two cats and a veg patch.
