The Power of Tiny Habits: How Small Steps Can Lead to Big Changes

When you think about changing your life, it can feel… a bit much. Overwhelming. Exhausting, even. Especially when you’re juggling work, kids (or grown-up kids!), health stuff, and, you know, trying to remember where you left your tea.

But here’s the beautiful truth: you don’t need a massive overhaul to create a meaningful shift.

Sometimes, it’s the tiny things — the five-minute journaling, the ten-minute morning stretch, the “just drink the glass of water” moments — that quietly start rewiring everything.

Why tiny habits work

They’re not intimidating.
They don’t rely on motivation (which let’s be honest, shows up about as often as a unicorn).
And they build momentum.

Each little habit says: “Look, I showed up today.” And that matters more than we give it credit for.

Some of my favourite tiny-but-mighty habits:

  • Writing a few lines in my journal before bed
  • Lighting a candle before I start work (yes, even if I’m in my pyjamas)
  • Choosing one thing to let go of today — a worry, a to-do, a piece of self-judgment
  • Taking a proper lunch break… in the garden if it’s sunny
  • Saying “no” to one thing so I can say “yes” to me

These micro moments have helped me rediscover who I am beyond the chaos and expectations.
