The Gentle Art of Getting Things Done (Even When You’re Running on Empty)
Let’s be honest — there are days when just getting dressed feels like a big win.
Living with chronic fatigue, IBS, or just the general whirlwind of life means I’ve had to completely rethink how I “get things done.” Gone are the colour-coded planners with 42 tasks before lunch. These days, I’m all about gentle productivity.
Yes, it’s a thing.
No, it doesn’t mean you’re slacking.
Gentle doesn’t mean unproductive
Gentle productivity is about working with your energy, not against it. It’s about tuning in to what you can do — not pushing through what you can’t. Some days, that’s answering one email. Other days, it’s a creative sprint from the garden table. Both are valid. Both count.
I’ve found that setting realistic rhythms (not rigid routines) has helped me build a business, write blog posts like this, and still take a nap when needed — guilt-free.
My go-to gentle routine tips:
- Start with a soft focus. Don’t leap out of bed into chaos. Ease in.
- Do one thing at a time. Multitasking = draining.
- Celebrate small wins. Ticked something off? Happy dance time.
- Know when to stop. Productivity doesn’t need to come at the cost of peace.
